hey, i have a new laptop, Compaq 2570, P4 2.4, 512ram, xp pro....my problem is the volume is really low. whenever i listen to music or watch a movie, i have to turn the vlume all the way up, and i still cant hear it very well. some mp3s are farly loud, but mostly everything is pretty low. its really annoying too, becuase when i hook up my laptop to my tv, using the s-video and the headphone jack for the audio, i have to turn the volume up on my tv all the way and again, its still pretty low. is there anything i can do? i already double clicked on the volume icon in the taskbar and turned everything up all the way, but that still doesnt work

  2. Does your laptop have a volume control using the function key on the keyboard.

it has a push button volume control on the side, and a volume control using the function key and the page up/down keys. but both of those controls do the same thing. they just turn the master volume up, just like if i was to click on the volume icon in the taskbar and raise it up. i also raised the wave, sw synth, cd audio, etc. in the volume control window, but it just wont go any louder. the volume is loud enough to listen to from the speakers on my laptop, if i turn it all the way up. but when i output the audio to my tv, i hae to turn it all the way up, and i get a lot of static doing this. is there any secret setting im missing here? or is this just the limits of my sound card. i beleive it is a Conexant sound card that cam with my computer.

  4. could it posibly be a driver issue? try installing the newest if you haven't already done so.

i'm sure i had a problem like this before but can't think as to what fixed it or if it was just a loose lead.

try ensuring the volume is all the way up in each seperate program you use, but i don't think this should have any effect because you should still hear it easily with the default volume settings in the program.

i dont really think it is a driver issue. i guess thats just as loud as my sound card will go.

I think it should definitely be able to go louder, because it is normally only your speakers that will limit the volume.

I did a few searches on google, but found nothing about conexant sound cards, even on their home page, mainly modems. So double check to make sure if it is conexant.

I would check to make sure, that in case your sound card has surround sound capabilites, you only have it set up for 2 speaker or whatever your set-up arrangement is. I don't know if this would help but it could.

  7. have you tried double clicking the speaker in the systray?
Brings up all the volume controls. crank them all up to full and see what happens.

from the device manage, it says the sound card is a conexant ac-link. when i searched that online, i found that the conexant ac-link is the 56k modem. but if i go to sounds and audio devices in control panel, it calls it a Conexant AMC Audio device. i went on their site too, and couldnt find anything about sound cards. compaqs site has nothing either. there is an updated driver, that i will install later on tonight.

yes, i have double clicked the sound icon and have everything turned up all the way.

I've the same kind of laptop or if you like a notebook, also a Compaq. Your specs looks as close to my own. Mine is also WinXP Pro.

Did you try to get the updated SoundMax driver from Compaq's website?

I did find the audio driver as the issue on my recent new computer and I need to update it. The audio driver and the volume control software was defective and now fixed.

ok so i just downloaded the updated drivers on compaq's site. and they didnt really help. maybe its just a cheap sound card i guess. im not really worried about the volume on the speakers. i just want it to be louder when i connect my laptop to my tv through the headphone jack. i have to turn the laptop volume all the way up and the volume on my tv all the way up, and i can still barely hear it.
