OK, I have Pentium 4 @1.8G
I have encoded say 300 DIVX films, using TMPENC, so how many instructions has my poor cpu actually processed? Any ideas?

I guess that would depend on how well optimized TMPGEnc is.
Considering a 1.8Ghz cpu has 1.8 billion cycles/sec to work with, and simple machine-level instructions (like copying a byte from one location in memory to another) take probably 10-20 cycles, you're probably looking at a very large number considering how high-level the language TMPGEnc was written in, and how complicated mpeg2 encoding algorithms must be...
As for how many, it's probably atleast this many
