I have two videos that are encoded in DivX 5.0 and have AC3 audio (.ogm). They also use subs that come in the form of .ssa.

My question is that, how should I go about encoding these to SVCD? I want to have burned in subtitles. However, since these videos are at 720x400, I'm afraid that once sized to 480x480 (with black borders top and bottom to keep ratio), the subtitles would be too small to read.

So if someone can provide the steps and point me to the right programs, it would be really helpful.

BTW, I did read this article in the Convert section:

    Is there a better way?

Can do this with AviSynth. If you don't already have GordianKnot download and install it. It can help you set up AviSynth scripting including the subs (assuming the subs are in a form VobSub can read I'm not up on all the different subtitle formats).

I've done this before and it works ... makes life easier when you get to your DVD Authoring software since most don't support sub files (but if it is already burnt into the video then problem solved).

Here is where it gets a little wierd. Im trying to split the file with VirtualDub, but it does not recognize the AC3 audio (using VirtualDubMod that detects OGM). So how am I supposed to split the movie? I tried extracting the AC3, but no programs actually worked. I tried GoldWave, AVI2WAV, BeSweet and HeadAC3he. None were able to open OGM files (DivX 5.0) to read the audio.
