Pinnacle Studio 9 and ULead VideoStudio 8.

Hi.

Can anyone please help a newbie with an authoring/editing/burning problem....?

I love editing my home movies in Studio 9. However, whenever I burn my finished project complete with disc menus and chapters, my home standalone DVD player won't even recognise the inseted burned disk diplaying a Disc error message. I've made so many coasters it's unbelieveable.....................................
I've tried lots of different types of media and -R and +R.
However................and here's the rub, when I produce and burn the same project using Ulead VideoStudio 8 on the SAME media on my first try...........................................ever ythings cool ???????
All the menus/chapters and even the newly burned DVD disk all work fine using Ulead running on every DVD standalone player in my house (unlike Studio).

I'm a newbie in this hobby, with only several months under my belt.
I checked my standalone players specifications in its manual and here on the compatability section, and it should play both of these discs and formats without problem.
I need the easy editing solution with all the menus and chapters that Studio brings, but with the burning compatability of ULead.
As I say, I love the many options purchased and built into Studio that my ULead version doesn't seem to have, but I can't continue to make all these coasters?
I haven't enclosed my system description and software versions as I believe that since I can burn disks using Ulead and edit, without any problems in both editing suites, It can't be a hardware issue.
Whats wrong with the Studio rendering/burning engine.
I have read on this forum that many people believe this to be the achilies heel of Studio..................?
Any thoughts would be greatfully appreciated.

Complete your edit in Studio, then output to an AVI file. Import that file into Ulead and burn. Either that or do what most of us do with Studio - remove, reload, apply updates (repeat at will)

I have to agree with JohnP. I've found that Studio is the best software to do your edits and add transitions-but that is where the usefulness of this software comes to an end. After you create your edits with Studio, and create the AVI file, use Ulead DVD Worshop 2 to author your DVD. You can do chapters with your software here as well. If you want to convert your final AVI file to DVD format (Mpeg2) then I suggest you do it in either Tmpeg first and then bring the converted file into Ulead DVD Worshop for authoring. Ulead Video Studio is more of a capturing software. Hope this helps.

Thanks very much for the response guys.
If I output my DVD complete with chapters and menus etc as an AVI file,
When I burn using ULead, will my chapters be preserved so they will work when I insert it into my Standalone player?
Or, will I have to complete my project with all the transitions and special effects etc first, then use Ulead to create my chapters etc and then burn using Ulead?
The reason I ask, is that my Ulead copy doesn't have many chapter and menu templates.
I have already purchased lots of these from Pinnacle and don't want to waste them and they give me graeter flexability in my presentations than my Ulead software.

wait...you forgot, curse, reboot upon crashes or lockup, uninstall, re-install, edit registry to remove all traces, apply patches, visit pinnacle forum, curse some more, lose work (repeat ad nasium)...best solution I found to the problems was to go out & buy some new, stable software, chalk it up to bad experience (although if some lawyer were smart, there's a good class action law suit out there for the making (although being from the US, we sue people for sport) and then run away from studio)...in any case, best of luck w/ it

Studio 8 is working for me from editing to burn DVD. If you still want
to keep manu generated by Studio 9, you can try to select "save
to hard disk instead of burn" in setup of "Make Disk". This way you will
get a number of *.vob files under Aux/<ProjectName>/DVD directory.
Then, you can use other burning softwares, like NERO, to directly burn
the *.vob to DVD.

You could also try burning the disc at slower speed, might help.

I like Studio, the way it works suits the unstructured DV footage that I make my films from. 90% of the time it works fine, but I have learnt not to fight it. There is always more than 1 way to 'skin a cat'. So construct your film in Studio (as you have done) - then either output to a DVD structure, or an AVI file, and use another app to author/burn the DVD

I'm not familiar with Pinnacle Studio 9 but I do have a couple of suggestions.

Does Studio 9 produce Video_TS and Audio_TS folders before burning?

1) If so, You could use another application, such as Nero, to burn the DVD. You might want to limit the burn speed to ensure a better chance of compatibility.

2) If not, then you could use Studio 9 to burn the video to DVD+/-RW disc. Then copy the Video_TS and Audio_TS files from that disc to your harddrive and burn those to DVD+/-R using Nero (or someother) burnning application.

I only used Studio8. It does not create Video_TS dir. But it creates
a dir, DVD, under AuxFile. I just drag all files under DVD to Nero 6
Video_TS. Nero may complain that there are a few files it does not
know. I just igored the warning and burn. All manu added during
the editing in Studio are burned to the final disk.

Thanks to all you guys who have posted replies to me.
Sorry I havent been able to reply until now, but shift work as a Paramedic is a killer on spare time.
I'll try your suggestions and get back to you on the forum.
I have bit the bullet somewhat, in that I purchased ULead studio 8 from QVC which was a good deal.
I'll try this full version of the software as it appeared to have a lot more transitions and effects than the trial version of sofware I downloaded from ULead.
