  1. Hello,

with Xvid being such high quality, I was wondering if anyone can tell me the best way to get Xvid to DVD, without losing too much quality. I was thinking, now correct me if I am wrong, to maybe use TMPEnc, or CCE, to convert XVID to the largest Mpeg file. then re-encode that to fit in a DVD. but say it had a lot of episodes, so you want to maximize your space on DVD also.

I was trying XVID to DVD, directly, but with people mentioning all these filters being placed through the mpeg file when you watch it on the computer, it makes it even better quality then the original file really is. soo What I was wondering what can be done to keep the filters in and keep it as high quality as possible.

  2. Your best bet would be to go directly from XVID to DVD. Just experiment with bitrates to determine what quality is acceptable to you and how much will fit on a disc.

Personally, I use TMPGEnc Plus and have got great results. CCE is good also, but I think it's crippled without using avisynth in combination with it.
CCE produces great results (without utilizing avisynth) if the source is very good to begin with. You could say the same thing regarding TMPGEnc, but it has more available options built into it to make the end result look better.

*If you reencode twice, you will lose quality.

Now that I have that out of the way..

For Xvid encoded episodes I usually use 1/2D1 resolution encoding in CQ mode in TMPGEnc 2000-6000 bitrate.. if source is noisey I usually frameserv through VDub with some filters first.
