  1. I feel that there is time right now when we have enough Desktop DVD Recorders that deserve separate category in list.

Also I feel that they include options like players and not DVD Writers. I understand that my needs might be different than rest of the users here but here is what I would like to see in that list.

    - Play media : DVD-R;DVD-RW;DVD+R;DVD+RW;DVD-RAM
    - Write media : DVD-R;DVD-RW;DVD+R;DVD+RW;DVD-RAM
    - Hard Drive : Yes;No
    - FireWire : No;Yes-Input Only; Yes-Input/Outut
    - Play PAL/NTSC : PAL Only; NTSC Only; PAL/NTSC - No convert; PAL/NTSC - True conversion
    - Record PAL/NTSC : PAL Only; NTSC Only; PAL/NTSC - No convert; PAL/NTSC - True conversion
    - Region/Macrovision Hack : same as DVD players
    - World power : 110V; 220V; 110-220V (can be moved from Europe to US or other way) - I would like to see this option in DVD Players too.
    - TBC Corrector: No; Yes-virtual; Yes-real
    - Audio encode: PCM; AC3; ....
    - High speed dub from HDD: No; 1x; 2x; 4x

What I would like to see MOST in a DVD Recorder?
I would LOVE to see just ONE person admit that they bought the DVD Recorder to RECORD.
SO MANY MORONS flock to www.dvdplusrw.org to bitch and moan about how their machine has failed ALREADY. And what do they bitch about most?...."My machine won't play commercial DVD's anymore".
Excuse me....if you wanted the most expensive DVD player in the store....you should have bought a Nakamichi or a Bang & Olufsen. Save the expensive piece of equipment to use only for what you bought it for....to RECORD DVD's.
    OK....I'm done venting....thanks...

A DVD RECORDER is one that you attach to your television...ie...one that records a signal that eventually goes to your television.
A DVD BURNER (also known as a WRITER) is IN your computer.
What do these things from your original post have to do with a COMPUTER DVD BURNER/WRITER?:
    Hard Drive : Yes;No
    FireWire : No;Yes-Input Only; Yes-Input/Outut
    World power : 110V; 220V; 110-220V
    PAL/NTSC - True conversion

Having said that and read your reply...What was your original post ABOUT anyway...a RECORDER's features or a BURNER/WRITER's features that you would like to see?

  7. Is my English realy so bad that you didn't get it ?

I know all that. If you start reading more carefully, you will see that my first post was about Desktop DVD Recorders .... (one that you attach to your television).

Second post was just an EXAMPLE.... and reply to your comment that there are people that are using Recorders or Writers only for recording/writin/burning (whaterver you want to call it).

OK....you are looking for something like this:

    http://www.dvdplusrw.org/Search.Overview.asp?mid=8&sid=9

    .....only HERE on THIS website?

  9. Almost.... Only it should be for -R/RW/RAM recorders too and it should enable search based on function.

For example... "Show me all DVD Recorders with HDD and PAL/NTSC support".

BTW: I like how they split functions based on market (N.A.; EU ...)

See there....I'm not as think as you dumb I am...

Actually this site is a bit better than the +R site as far as info on Recorders goes. I didn't realize it had become THAT comprehensive....and it covers ALL....not just +R. OK...the opportunity is there....all it needs is input from owners.

  13. donpedro,

Good suggestion. I would suggest the consideration of adding a few more pieces of information to the list:

    - Menu picture thumbnails : Yes;No
    - Dubbing to disc format : HDD->DVD-R/+R/-RW/+RW/-RAM
    - Dubbing to hard drive format : DVD-R/+R/-RW/+RW/-RAM->HDD

One guy got in a huff because a Panasonic unit wouldn't go from DVD-R to the HDD, so that's what I'm trying to get at with the "dubbing" entries. And, this is something that isn't very clear in the manual. So, it might be a good idea to make that info clear.

Also, the Panasonic units don't output "RF" like a VCR does -- that might be significant to some people. I'm not sure if that's the case with all DVD recorders or not -- my guess is that none of them do, like "DVD players." But, if some do, perhaps that's something to add to the list.

    Finally, to hech54:

"I bought my DVD Recorder only to RECORD."

My first recorder, a Panasonic DMR-E50, isn't even anywhere near my main audio/video system -- it sits on my computer table, atop a VCR I dub to it from, next to an LCD monitor I use to monitor my recordings. I only use the "playback" to make sure my recordings are successful.

My second recorder, a Panasonic DMR-E80H, IS installed within my main audio/video system. I most definitely use it to "play" stuff back through the main system -- stuff I recorded onto the hard drive, "in lieu of a VCR." I don't use either of these recorders to "view commercial DVD's" -- both commercial DVD's and home-recorded DVD's go into a couple of Sony 300-disc megachangers, through which I view all DVD's.

Hope that helps make your day.

  14. Hey Donpedro. I'll sign the "petition". I think that dvd recorders do have a place on this forum and we need to have a spot to assist people in determining which recorder meets thir needs.

Maybe even get down to media accepted.

it will probably take some months until it is done...I will first update the dvd player list with some stuff and then will the dvd recorders be linked to the dvd players so they have same read support features.

  18. Great to see that you are looking into this. It will be very helpfull to all new DVD Recorder buyers to be able to search based on common DVD Recorder requirements.
