  1. Hello, I just purchased the Apex DRX-9200. If anybody is interested Meijer has it on sale through the 13th I believe for $149.99 and there is a $50 rebate available as well, dropping the price to a low $100.00 after rebate.

My question is does anybody have info on the chipset that is uses. I have read the DRX-9000 uses the LSI chipset but that the 9200 does not. If not does anybody have any info on the chipset.

If anybody is out there that has been using this machine a little while can share some thoughts on the processor and the relaibility and general experiances it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

My information is the Apex 9200 is NOT and LSI, and that it STILL has exploding PSU issues. With JVC, LiteOn and Pioneer recorders so good, no reason to settle for APEX anymore.

JVC was my Apex replacement. Even better use of LSI chips.

  3. Thanks for the great info. You are right, I set the timer last night to record a few shows and found that the lighting would rise up and down just a little and the audio became out of sink pretty quickly. This was in the 3 hour recording mode. I dont think it is a good buy even at $100.00 after rebate and am going to take mine back tomorrow.

What are your thoughts on the lite-on 5100 series, that can be had for $139 at sams club, is it a good jump in quality, also does it have an lcd readout on the front I have never been able to see one powered on.

Any info woudl be greatly appreciated, I am trying to find one for under $200 if possible that will provide a quality unit, I will go to panasonic or pioneer if I have to though, I was just trying to keep in under $200 if possible.

    Thanks for any info

"Under $200" -and- "high quality" do not meet at this point in time. LiteOn units are fairly good, especially the hackable units. But CVBR is a devil, poor LSI usage.

JVC is the way to go for quality, about $250-300. Pioneer is about as good as the LiteOn, about $225.

The Sanyo units at Walmart are decent, and are a good budget price. It has a much-valued 3-hour mode that is quite decent, and the unit works quite well.

Panasonic isn't even on the list. It was the first recorder, but it has long ago been left in the dust of newer chipsets.

Sony, Sharp, Toshiba, same thing. Not impressed, beat by the others.

Cyberhome, Polaroid, etc, just flat horrible.

  5. I know that this isn't really relevent to this thread but I also purchased this apex. I've only used it a couple of times so it's to early for me to pass judgement.

I did open mine up though to find out who makes the drive. Mine utilizes a BenQ model DR300 burner. I did a search on this drive and it brought back nothing.
