I just wanted to know if it's possible because I am trying to price things out for a cheap dvd-rom so I can give my burner/rom(internal) a rest for once and only use it for the burning.
Is this possible or does it have to be a firewire drive because those are more expensive. :P

If you want decent speed you need either firewire or USB 2.0. Personally I suggest firewire, the cases are about $50 online, and I've see firewire cards cheap as 10-15 onsale.
But I suggest making your burner external and your new rom internal, it makes alot more sense. -
Get a bigger case and put them both, Burner and ROM in the case. A knew case is only aroun $35.00 with a 500 watt Power supply.
