I have noticed that my encoded mpeg videos tend to fade in and out or up and down with brightness. It is not to extreme but it is noticeable and I am wonder at which point or what part of the process could be causing it. I use Smartripper to rip the DVD, then I use DVD2AVI the latest version to make the project and wave file. I then use TMPGenc latest version to create the MPEG video and use toolame to create the audio. Then I use Nero 4.9 to burn my VCD. I am assuming it is in TMPGenc that the problem happens but since it is in and out I don't know if adjusting any setting will correct the problem. Any suggestions? thanks, esc

Make *sure* you have Macrovison checked in SmartRipper... you descibe classic Macrovision protection.
