Okay basically, all I wanted to do was get a .avi file that I downloaded and cut a bit out to leave only the bits I want. I have a video of a football match (soccer) that is put into 10 minute highlights. I want to cut the bits out that I don't want and the parts of the goals I want to keep.

I have used Cut Assistant and some other programs on here but have no utter idea on how to use them. Would anyone be able to recommend me the easiest to use programs and if possible a guide/video guide?

Sorry if I sound a complete noob but this has been bugging me for a long time and I just want to get it out of the way.

If anyone can help I give a million thanks Cheers guys!

What sort of AVI file ? As it is downloaded, I assume probably Divx/Xvid, but g-spot or mediainfo can confirm this.

The latest Virtualdub with smart-rendering can do this, as can AVIDemux. Just mark the start and end of the section you want to remove, then hit DEL. Repeat until all you have left is your highlights, and render the result to a new file.
