I have recently purchased, ATI all-in-wonder 9700 Capture Card, and XCopy.
My project is to convert my VHS library which is quite large (700+).
My plans are to burn a movie each night as I sleep, so time will not be a factor when I burn at night. Could that be harmful to my machine, or does the software stop when the disk is full?
What would be my most economically painless course?
My system is AMD Athlon 2000+ 1.66 GHZ, 736 MB Ram, 80 GB hard drive, Windows XP pro 2002 with Service Pack 1.
Does 1X copy painfully slow? What would the copy time be for a typical 100 minute movie?
I have found some of the media that is recommended on this forum in the Sticky Post, which by the way was very helpful, DupEZ DVD-R 4.7GB/100 for $67. It is, however, only 1X.
I will also burn some copies during the day, and really need to know what I'm up against as far as 1x or 2.4x vs 4x as it relates to burn time.
Also, in light of my operating system, will I be able to burn a DVD and perform other tasks, eg, listen to music, surf the net?
Thanks for your help.
Regards,

Your computer will be fine burning a dvd will you sleep. The software will stop when it is finished burning the dvd but you will still have to close out the program when you wake up.Originally Posted by videodummy
Not sure what answer to give you on that one.Originally Posted by videodummy
When burning a dvd, it does not matter how long the movie is, it is the size of the file(s) that you are burning that matters.Originally Posted by videodummy
I use Ritek 4x DVD-R, alot of members here seem to favor those.Originally Posted by videodummy

@ 4X a full disk will take around 15 mins give or take a couple.
It wont be the burning that will be the time comsuming bit. Not done any video capturing but guess it will have to play the full tape to capture.
Better off looking at the guides on the left.
Nero does have a option to turn computer off after finishing the burn.
You might get away with doing other stuff while burning but its going to be slow to say the least.
I took the option of building a spare system using old parts just for a tower so burning and encoding would be on a seperate system, uses a duron 750 which is at 100% during a burn. Not bothered by small problems...

My Burner is a Sony 510A. Some of the better priced Ritek Media I'm looking at is compatible with the 500. Would it be reasonable to assume that the 510 would also be compatible?Originally Posted by iooi

Burning will probably not be the most time consuming task if you plan on capturing to AVI and endcoing to MPEG2. That process will. If you are going straight to MPEG2, then capturing will be the most time consuming.
Burning 4X will take just over 14min, and burning at 2.4x will be around 24 minutes. -
I have no idea on your choice of media, but ritek printables are what i use and i have had no problems, there again i use a pionier 105 burner. Try the Media list on the left that should throw up what you are looking for or try asking the supplier of the disk.Originally Posted by videodummyNot bothered by small problems...
