  1. I am thinking of moving onto Digital 8 later this year (currently on 8mm so will want to be able to play back my 8mm tapes on the new camcorder).

Two questions spring to mind that I would appreciate help with from current Digital camcorder owners:

    1. Can you play out from a DV or Digital 8 camcorder via composite or s-video connectors and if so what loss of quality do you tend to suffer (I just got a DC10+ which I love so would like to use it going forward if possible).

    2. When you play 8mm in your Digital 8 camcorder and output thru DV is it as good as it was from the original 8mm camcorder.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

I am currently using a Sony TRV48e 8mm camcorder with my new DC10+ to make VideoCD's and really only want to replace the camcorder rather than the whole kit if possible.

    Regards

    Hello,

I own a Sony TRV120e. It plays video8 as well as Hi-8 fine.
Up to now I've failed to see quality loss with regard to the original, be it thru s-video out or DV-out.
As compared to footage shot in D8 there's definitely noticable difference which will probably make you frown upon the stuff you've captured before

    Cheers,

    Ton

  3. I just edited a footage made with 2 cams Digital8 and standard 8.
Captured it via Digital8 camcorder - firewire as DV.

I think 8 footage quality is good (no loss), and is the best (if not only ) way
to non-linearly cut/edit standard 8 footage without quality loss (it will be recorded back to DV
    tape).

Actually I think that reason for capturing old 8 footage in the Digital8 cam yelding
better result is because you don't have to thru all the circuits/wires of
composite connection to a capture card. Same with sound.

You notice scenes made with standard 8 camcorder have way worse colors and bleeding.
But the content is more important - not the delivery - isn't it?

PS: Not all Digital 8 play standars8 and Hi8 tapes.
e.g TRV130 does not. (make sure when buying)
