I realize the chances of getting an answer are slim... but here goes.

I installed 10.2 on a G3 powerbook that im working up for a friend.
He had 9.2.2 on there and everything worked fine as far as the internet and what not though my cable modem and through his also

he asked me to install 10.2 and set it up for his wireless network. So i do that, put 10.2 on there update to 10.2.8 and get all the drivers for the wireless cards up and running.

Thing is ...... the computer is not being assigned an IP under OSX, yet it will under OS9

it seems to only be related to running the comptuer in OSX.

Ive tried direct connect via cable modem - no ip assigned, i just get generic 169.xxx.xxx.xxx which the modem is assigning.

Ive tried though the router, and all i get is self assginded router number

    ive tried wirelessly, same thing

    all works perfectly in OS9

any mac guys out there besides me that may have a clue whats going on?

  2. I'm reaching here, but

    apple/system preferences/network

Try setting it to static IP and see if it works
Also does it require authentication (PPPOE) or are you running it behind a DSL router/switch.

Was another computer connected to that modem?
You might have to reset the MAC address on the modem...power cycle does the trick
tgpo famous MAC commercial, You be the judge?

yea thats how you get to your network preferences, problem is it was not applying applying any DCHP settings.

after 3 restarts, it magically starts working.

hahahah nothing like the all powerful restart

thanks for taking a stab at it though

it confused the heck out of lots of apple.com people
