Is there any way to convince this player to accept VCD's?

I purchased this DVD/VHS combo player for the TV Guardian feature that works for DVD & VHS sources, but, it doesn't play VCD's like my last DVD
player.

Thanks for any help. I have searched for this player and the term VCD and firmware without success.
