First off, sorry if this answer has been posted elsewhere, but I have done searches for the terms and read your faq's, and I cannot seem to answer my dillemma.

In a nutshell, I am ripping LOTR Fellowship Extended edition. Now I did it my usual method (Gordian knot) and followed their Xvid guide. Now, of course I was missing the english subtitles during the elvish speech.

I then of course realised I need to now include subtitles, which I would like to have permanently burned.

I have followed the advanced guide, I used Robot4rip to rip the subtitles, English 2 in this case as was my understanding. I am left with a .sub and .idx file.

I configure the .avs file using Gordian Knot, which I then select permanent subtiles. I encoded the video, and no luck.

I then re did the process manually, by opening up the video, then going to filters, add vobsub, and did it that method. When I hit preview, I still see no subtitles.

I feel I am definitely adding the vobsub correctly, I see mainly 2 options. Firstly, I have not correctly ripped the subtitles correctly, and so the .idx and .sub file I am adding has no subtitles. Or, there is a problem somewhere in the encoding process that I am not seeing the subtitles properly.

When I hit preview on the virtualdub window with the vobsub filter files included, I should in theory see the subtitles?

I am not sure where I am going wrong here, but I am having no luck getting these subtitles to appear on the video.

Any help appreciated.
