What does it mean when it says that the drive is OEM?

  2. OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacture. It simply means that it origianlly came with the computer. It is not an after-market, or user installed part.
2 DVD, or not 2 DVD, that is the question.

  3. OEM = Original Equipement Manufactured. It's the way pc manufacturers and/or assemblers usually purchase drives (or other equipment) in bulk. In our case (as endusers - ordering drives from a website), it usually means that it comes in a plain non-static wrapper, maybe a plain white box, with NO documentation, and usually NO software

So what does it have to with dvd burners that are sold online. Does it make sense to buy OEM. I heard somewhere that OEM means taht it is made by some unknown company and then lets say pioneer just print their brand name on it.

  6. OEM = Original Equipement Manufacturer. means its from the company that made it and comes without all the fancies that retail drives have, eg screws cables and a nice box. bought in bulk this way by many companies.
