The passing of the MinTek DVD-1600 (and the othet models also).
I have attempted to get them at Best Buy who no longer carries them. So I contacted the company. Seems the last 75,000 are going to Target and thats it. The retailers want to get these things for a song, and Mintek is not going to sell the things below cost so.......
They are not going to build anymore.........SIGH.
So How do I replace this Gem ? Dont say the Norcent. I don't think it is as stable and it is scarce as hens teeth also. I am saddened. This was a fine machine for the money. I have personally given away at least 10 of them and own 2 for myself. Planned on giving away 24 more in the next year...

I'm not sure why people like the Mintek 1600 player so much.. perhaps you guys can help clarify why..
I just got one.. and it seems a bit cheap (cheaply made, etc). I have not gotten it to be able to play one mp3 folder and then when it's done move on to the next -- the player just stops and eventually turns off (or goes into sleep mode, etc.). Do you know how to enable it to continue to plays m3's b/w folders? Also, I've been having problems playing movies burned with DVD X Copy (even with hitting 'title repeatedly, as folks on here suggest doing). I've read that the player can be picky about supporting discs not written in w/o Joliet, etc. Also, I don't really like the lack of long filename support.
What are the other features about this player that people like? -
The special part must be that it is cheap, plays almost everything you can put in it, and region/macro hack. That is usually what makes them popular. As far as plays anything, I'm looking at the new Panasonics. The DVD-S35 and its brethren (don't remember the models). Cheap and plays most everything including DVD-RAM. Though there was a post about an Apex that is a player and PVR with 40 GB disk for about $250.00. to me that seems like a decent deal too.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they? -
I own one and it is great, plays anything that I throw at it. MP3's home made VCD's DVD+R and -R and RW and I can also burn some pictures to a CD as a Data Disc and put it in my Mintek and play it as a slide show.
This DVD player is awsome.

Well, on a tip from the manufacturer, I bought 15 from target. They shipped the last 75,000 to target stores and thats it.
My cost - 39.99 each ...WOW
Whomever asked whats so special about this machine ? Well, CEHAP is not a word you coould use on this machine at all. Small in statue, it is a VERY solid machine.
The drive mechinism is smooth and operation is flawless.
I have played on several machines:
Produced DVD's
DVD+R, DVD-r, DVD+RW, CD-R (VCD, SVCD, MP3)
have not tried JPEG but who cares. The box never gets hot, never fails.
And I create with DVDXCOPY, Instant Copy, DVDSHRINK DVD2One, Vegas and Nero. I have yet to hit a disk it didn't play flawlessly. And I mean flawless.
The old APEX used to stutter sometimes on VCD"s and other machines would often stop and play catch-up or glitch on burned DVD's. Not the Mintek.
This machine should really be selling for 100 buck or more and be the one all are chasing.
Do you know what happens when we let this baby slide ? Option wars. The companies are realigning products. What you are going to see is the cheap DVD players ONLY palying limited format, then as the price scale rises so will features. Probably the way it always should have been but with DVD players, it seemed the least expensive out there did the most (except progressive sscan and digital dts via fiber)
If you can get ahold of one at Target stores for 39.99, buy 2, thank me later and you will always have an awesome player. -
The day the last one sells will be a sad day in electronics history.

But basically the Cyberhome CH-DVD 300, $48 at Radioshack, is progressive scan.. played all my DVD-R, CD-R, and VCD's flawlessly. Also plays MP3-DVD's, ** WITH long filename support... AND there's no problems with clicks or chirps like there were with the Mintek 1600. AND it plays my DVD's copied with DVD X Copy that Mintek would not.
For my needs, this is the player to get. Best picture from all the DVD players I've tried yet (Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, Mintek, Phillips). -

I have a Mintek DVD-2110. It played DVD-R move for about 20 minutes and then started stuttering and freezing. I had no luck with these DVD-R medias: TDK, Fujifilm, CompUSA, Imation, Memorek, KHypermedia, Ritek, Sony, and Verbatim Datalife. I used the Pioneer DVD 105 burner.
I was hoping anyone can tell me which DVD-R media will work with the Mintek DVD-2110 player.
Thanks
