Following on from my previous post on the subject, I've bought a Lite-On Combo LTC4816 DVD/CDRW to see if my old drive was the cause.
Result???
No difference - still starting at about x3 and creeping up to about x7.
The Lite-On is rated as a x16 DVD-Rom so it should be faster than what I'm achieving surely?

It all depends on what type of disc you are ripping . Using DVDDecrypter I get the following results ;
Single layer in ISO read mode = 15X + max speed .
Dual layer in ISO read mode = 12X + max speed .
Dual layer in file mode = 4X+ max speed .Keep it on the big cam ! -
Other things besides read speed can effect rip speeds. Processor speed, the software yer ripping with, amount of ram, IDE configuration, HD speed, HD space, a need to defrag the HD regardless of how much available space u have, the ASPI layer, etc etc.
