hey all, im thinking of getting the Canopus ADVC-100. after reading stuff on this site, ive decided its the best out there for my money. well i was reading on the canopus site and at the bottom of the specs page, theres a little note that says the unit has known compatibility problems with the Texas Instruments chipsets in some firewire cards. well i go to my device manager on my laptop, and sure enough, i have the TI chipset. anyone know what the compatibilty problems with the TI chipset are? i dont want to buy this unit then find out it doesnt work with my computer

I believe that note applies to the older TI chipsets, newer ones are OK. I might be wrong on this, but I believe also that mostly applied to the other cards that Canopus makes, and not necessasarily to the ADVC-100. I would check their forum or call their tech assistance with your TI chip number handy to get the best information. If you are using a laptop and you have problems with your on-board Firewire, you can get a cheap $30US Firewire cardbus card and it will work fine. I tried it on my laptop with no problems. By the way, I don't recommend it for a laptop due to lack of HD space, but it will still work.

Yes, that's pretty much a dead issue. It was only certain combinations with a TI chipset. Any new card should be fine.
