Hi all i am in trouble converting my DVD film ihave put it on my hard drive in the form of Video_ts.vob Video_ts.BUP Video_ts.IFO, vts_01_0.vob vts_01_0.ifo vts_01_0.BUP and so on until vts_07_0.vob vts_07_0.ifo vts_07_0.BUP. All these files make up the film roughly 7.6gig i want to convert them to Divx or some thing that will take up less space on the hard drive i dont want to delete them just incase i scratch the DVD that they are on. Iwould like to keep quality as good as pos so i can put it back to DVD if needed. I have read some of the guides and tried various thing but none seem to work or are coming back with time of 75hrs to complete. I want a simple as poss solution at the mo ive got about 10 diff video conversion progs and the same on the audio.
Would like to select the files hit convert and get a smaller mpeg2 or some thing similar at the end.
Thanks for any help....

dvdshrink
What are your computer specs, if it is slow the 75 hours may be correct -
Hi
speck is good i think no over clocking done
P4 2.8
1gig ram
abit max3 mother board
200gig sata hard drive
Radeon pro 9600 agp -
try dvdshrink
Also update your computer details so that you do not have to keep stating your spec. Gives people a better idea. 75 hours does sound a little long -
Dvd Shrink is reducing the quality as i under stand it? might be rong.
Where as if i convert it say to divx or avi is this not just compressing rather than reducing qaulity. as a 700meg avi when converted back to dvd format comes in at 4gig.
Would rather compress and store than uncompress when needed. -
Sorry got confused with what you wanted.
So you want to compress the file to save on your hard drive ?
You say you have tried numerous guides, which ones ? and using what programs ? -
I have used or tried to use most of which i find long winded with having to split the sound and video then convert it back etc etc.
the progs i have at the moment and have tried are
MCMPGENC
TMPGEnc
vcdgear
DVD2AVI
BeSweet
DVD Decrypter
DVD Shrink
GSpot
Nero (wont convert need mpeg2 plugin although i do have it must be putting it in the wrong place)
DVDMaestro (dont have a clue on this one)
TMPGen Author
Chapter Xtractor
Sub Rip
XMPEG
DVDx
Think at this point i have to much choice of prog as soon as i find a way to do what i want i will remove all the progs and keep the ones needed.
I am also trying to put avi or mpeg 1 on to dvd so i can keep all episodes of planet of the apes on one dvd rather than 5. -
This is a simple guide

Try that -
Hi just tried the program you mentioned and it has taken my DVD file and converted it to a AVI but the DVD file was 2gig and the new avi is 4gig also when trying a dvd that had 6 different episodes on it is only converting the first episode.
Cheers -

A movie compressed to 700 MB can be pretty good but it is not DVD quality.
The easiest, fastest and a good quality method for backing up your DVD is to use DVD Shrink, backup just the movie, and burn it to DVD-R. Put the original away and use the copy for playing.
