  1. If a DVD burner is listed as a burner for general purpose DVD-R, does it mean that you can't author ordinary DVDs on it? I found the info of my product on this site (manufacturer): http://www.panasonic.com/industrial/computer/storage/dvdram/images/pdf/d311_omote.pdf

Under the small heading where it says Read/Write it say 4.7 GB DVD-R Disc (for general ver 2.0). What does the general ver 2.0 mean? Thank you in advance.

  2. There's an article that explains the difference between *general* (consumer) DVD recording media and *authoring* (professional) DVD recording meda.

You'll find the article on the Web page at the following link:

Your Panasonic LF-D311 will work great with *general* Sony brand DVD-R (write-once) discs.

I have that particular drive model and - although it is a first generation model - it works for me with great reliability.

It also records to DVD-RAM, which I have found very useful for data storage.
