  1. So I have an imovie DVD-R which seems to work fine on most DVD player, yet when I try to copy it on my PC using my HP 300i DVD+RW drive, it fails. Here is the software I've tried, and the results I get:

HP's software: The DVD copier program simply fails reading the source DVD-R at around 3-4%.
EZ CD/DVD Creator: DVD copier fails towards the end of the copy process. Copying it as a data DVD works, but the resulting DVD freezes the computer about 30 seconds in. Capturing the DVD image and burning it gives the same results.

I doubt it makes a difference, but to prevent making coasters, I've been using a DVD+RW as my blank for these. Any ideas?

What makes you think it is error free? It probably isn't. 'Rip' it with DVDDEcryptor and count the errors.

Why would he use DVD Shrink to rip it? It's not encrypted.

While copy on the fly, or disc to disc copying is the easiest way to copy a copy, it doesn't always work, as we can clearly see here. I suggest this instead....

Make sure your source disc is clean. A tiny speck of dust can cause the errors you mention.

Open up the source dvdr and drag the VIDEO_TS folder onto your HD. Then burn the folder contents onto the blank dvdr using your usual method of making a dvd-video. Just make sure u drag the ifo, bup, and vob files into a VIDEO_TS folder on the new dvdr.

As for your DVD+RW disc....it should be fine for doing tests. I have the same burner u do and have had great results with it.
