  1. Hello!

First of all if this topic was discussed before I appologize. The thing is a local store is having a one day sale for this particular burner and since I have 5 days till the sale I want to clear some things first. I have heard that some "new models" of todays dvd burners will actualy support burning to dual-layer discs. Since I dont burn much I hope to have this one quite some time and I would hate to see that in a couple of months a new generation of burners are out and capable burning dual-layer dvds. Is this sci-fi or is there actually some hope that this burner will support dual-layer burning?

    Best regards,

    PIC

  2. As far as I've seen, only the current 8x burners will possibly be able to support dual-layer burning. I own a Pioneer 106, so that is a disappointing fact. If you want to burn dual layer, I would just wait a little bit until the facts are concrete...

  3. I think you are confusing dual layer with dual format. Most of the new writers suppose dual format: will burn either DVD-R or DVD+R. Currently no burners support dual layer (multiple layer, DVD9) burning. But the +R and the -R groups are working on dual layer burners thou. Odds are that when/if they come out none of the current burners will be able to burn to dual layer media.

So if you only want to buy once the question is when/if dual layer come out and how much will it cost? Right now that info is really unknown. I would just accept the fact that new technology comes out quickly and buy a DVDR drive today, then when prices for dual layer media/drives come down but a new one. That's life (esp in the PC world).

  4. Read that the current +R 8x recorder may have the potential to record dual layered discs in the future.
