hard drive backup help needed......

i have 2 hard drives on my pc.....one is an 80 gig and the other is a 45 gig....i have never had this problem but here it is....the 80 gig has the operating system on it. WIN2k....the 45 gig has ALOT of backup files on it..about 17 gigs worth....the problem is my 45 gig is giving an error saying it is not formatted....in DOS i can get a directory of the folders on it and i can also perform a scandisk on it from DOS....anything from windows i get an inaccesiblity error...what i would like to know is if there is a program to backup the folders in DOS....i have tried a couple of image programs but they have not beeen successful...any help is greatly appreciated....

ok...i have managed to use a program called Paragon Hard Disk Manager to back up the files....it compresses them into PB files....From DOS...i wiped the 45 gig drive, re-partitioned then formatted...used the same program to restore the files....in order for me to do that i had to use the same prgram to format the drive again..when i did that the drive dissapeared from windows...it went ahead and replaced the backup files but now i am back to quare one....the files are there but the drive is supposedly unformatted....same as when i first started....i wish i could find a way to open the PB files...they start off as PBF then they are number PB1, PB2, and so forth then they turn into P1, P2, and so forth....any ideas????
