I just got a Canopus ADVC1394 card. When I capture video from an analog VCR source, do I need to deinterlace it when I am rendering to SVCD format? In other words, will the lines from the interlacing show up as artifacts when viewed on a TV set? I'm using Sonic Foundry Vegas to capture at 720 x 480 NTSC, then rendering to MPEG2 with TMPGEnc.

This doesn't only apply to watching it on tv. SVCD is per definition interlaced, so any device which can play SVCD will play it. This also includes software DVD players. Ofcourse this doesn't apply to Windows Mediaplayer, cos that's not a DVD player.
