  1. Hello

I am currently using a trial version of TMPEnc DVD Author to work with VRO files created by my panasonic set top dvd recorder. I am pleased that this software does not re-encode the video.

My desired dvd project consists of an introductory first play video that runs for 18 seconds [logo] then the menu with links to play the feature or access a chapter menu.

The problem that I encounter is that the menu creates two choices--the first play and then the main feature. I am able to create one work around by deleting the link information; however, the resulting menu contains a "play all" button which cannot be removed or relinked to only play the second clip [the main feature]. Of course, when the play all button is selected the eighteen second logo replays and then proceeds into the feature.

If possible, I would like to have the logo play at the start, advance to the main menu, then have the option to play the movie only or access a chapter menu without replaying the introductory logo. Can this be done?

    Thank you

    John

I went through the similar issues and I don't think there is an easy way to do it, at least I never found one with TMPGEnc DVD and never got any suggestion when I asked. Other that that issue I really like the program.

The suggestion I did get was to use DVD-Lab, it has the capability. I ended up using the trial version and it did let me do it. I'm coming to the conclusion that I'll ultimately end up with multiple authoring programs depending on what I want.

Um...dumb question from a relative newbie:
How do you NOT have TMPEnc DVD Author re-encode the video? I just created what I thought was a masterpiece...inserting chapters...naming each chapter(or song in this case...it was a concert video)....VERY impressive BLUE menu screens....and the video quality was CRAP.
Am I doing something wrong here?..

  5. hech54 --how many of your 124 postings basically consist of no valid information to a posted querry???

I cannot believe that TMPGEnc DVD Author is re-encding my VRO file. The disc compilation time is under 15 minutes to create the video_ts file. The burning procedure takes 30 minutes for a 96 minute program.

In my experience, a re-encode through DVD Architect lasted for 3 hours 12 minutes for the same 96 minute program.

  7. Hech54--I believe that I owe you an apology. In fact I do--my apology for mis-reading your post.

In reading your post, late at night, I understood--"Um...dumb question from a relative newbie:" as applying to my question about menu creation in TMPGEnc DVD Author. I realize that I should look beyond my own personal myopic perspective. I did react in an improper way.

While I am obvioulsy no expert on this DVD Authoring software, no re-encode takes place because a set top panasonic dvd recorder records the program. In placing the program on a DVD Ram disc, a *.VRO file is created which contains the video portion of the program.

By directly accepting this *.VRO file, no re-encode takes place. In using previous authoring programs, a re-encode resulted with a loss in quality. My goal, as I believe the goal of many, is to create the best quality disc possible.

Was your original concert clip an mpeg2 file, TMPGEnc DVD Author should accept the file--what kind of file were you trying to insert? *.mpg, *.m2v etc???

So while I appreciate the monicker "tough guy," I must admit that foolsih guy is a much better description.

    Hififan,
No Worries. I apologize as well. I realized later that you had misread MY post and took it as an insult to a newbie....SORRY for jumping the gun kind sir...
TMPGEnc DVD Author is just doing SOMETHING with my Philips created DVD+R that I can't figure out. It is taking WAY to long to create the folders and the outcome (quality wise) is garbage and I can't figure out what it is doing and why only my Philips created +R's.
There MAY be an answer upcoming from an earlier post I saw this morning....which is what I was looking for when I saw your(this) reply.
    THANKS for the reply....
