I bought an I/O Magic 8x + and - burner at Staples this weekend ($89 straight purchase). The package includes Pinnacle 8 SE software. I bought TDK + and TDK - discs, also on sale through straight purchase.
I used DVDShrink to rip and back up Seabiscuit on my hard drive. Using InstantCopy (the Pinnacle burning program) I am able to burn successfully to + discs. When I use - discs, however, the burn goes to the end (100% or 4.36 GB). Then I get a "formatting error" prompt and a coaster.
Any thoughts or ideas?

Read the comments on the TDK thread reagrding the -R tdk discs. Im not saying all are gonna be crappy, but you can read for urself. Try a few more -R and see. By the way, not that I care, but you can only make ONE backup copy of your movie...legally(or illegaly, depending on who u talk to). Anyway, try a few more and if u aint satisfied, return them., also, do a test burn if u can.

Thanks to both of you.
I'll return the DVD-Rs and see if I can get DVD+Rs. As to making one copy, thank you -- that's my intent. The kids can be hard on a disc. I'd rather let them ruin a copy than the original.
Again thank you.
