A search of the forums would reveal that Lite-on is considered the fastest.

  3. do you know about the lite-on combo drives? the ones i found are mostly dvd-rom drive that is being talked about. i want a combo drive cause i don't got the space for two seperate drives

  4. I recently bought the LiteOn combo drive (16xDVDROM, 48xCDR, etc).

    Works like a charm.

  5. ztank what is your dvd rip speed for the lit-on combo drive you just got? WHen did you get it?

  6. The Lite-on 166 is a drive that is known to be unlocked, other drive models vary. You can get this drive for ~$30 from www.newegg.com

In my hands DVD5 discs rip at 6-10x normal (seen as high as 15.5x) and DVD9 discs rip at 4-8x. The size of the disc and if it's encrypted makes a difference.
