  1. Can somebody recommend the best external DVD/RW available on the market right now or direct me to a website that I can investigate them?

    newegg.com has excellant pricing and a good reputation as a vendor. Read the customer ratings on varous drives.

    Remember that an external drive is basically an internal drive with a $50 USB2.0/Fireware case.

    I believe Sony makes an external version of the DRU-500A this is a great burner that will support both +/- R. I've been extremely happy with mine.

    I have had absolutely no problems at all with my Sony DRX 500 ULX external burner. I use various media DVD+R and -R, and they all work fine after burning on my Sony, and Apex DVD players and on my PS2.
