  1. Hi there.
    I have the following problem.

After I use DVD2AVI to make the VOB files appear as mp2, I run VFAPI codec to make a "fake" AVI ile in order to edit it in VDub and then frameserve to TMPGEnc.

However, when I try to open the VFAPI avi in VirtualDub, it gives me the following error : "Cannot determine filrtype of xxxxx.avi "

I know I have installed the VFAPI codec properly and have also run the vifpset.bat after installing, however the problem persists.

What am I doing wrong ?

    Thx in advance.

P.S. : Windows Media Player cannot open the VFAPI avi either, giving me an "unsupported filetype error"

  2. Well, I am sure that a previous VFAPI avi worked with VDub. Then I frameserved and when I tried to open VFAPI again, I couldn't.

I now read from posts that frameserver has to be turned off, however at that time I didn't know that and i uninstalled VDub, withoud disabling frameserve.

After I installed VDub again, I run the proxyoff.reg (to turn frameserve off), however the problem persisted there.

What alterations does the frameserve option do to my system and how can I bring my system back to what it was before frameserving ? (proxyoff.reg doesn't seem to work)

    Thx in advance.

  3. WELL I FIXED IT !!!!!

Seems like you have to re-encode from d2v--->VFAPI avi after disabling frameserving in VDUB.

I just kept on trying to load a VFAPI avi hat was created while frameserving was still "on" and nothing happened.

Just keep that in mind guys : "DISABLE FRAMESERVE IMMEDIATELY AFTER YOU STOP FRAMESEVING"

    See ya.

Could I use a similar method so LSX MPEG encoder can recognise the DVD2AVI output files (.d2v extensions?) as I get a similar 'not an avi or unrecognised format' type error? Ultimately I would like to know how to make LSX recognise the .d2v files as avi, much like tmpenc does.
Yesterday is history, tomorrow a mystery, today is a gift - which is why it's called the present, so make the most of it.

That's odd. I had no problems with DVD2AVI. And all this time I had Frameserving left ON. I have been using VirtualDub to frameserve occassionally over the past week, no problems. Nor any problems with DVD2AVI.

    Hm?
