  1. I have just bought a sony handycam trv-22. I'm happy with it and making my first tests transfering DV with the firewire port. I transferred a taped episode (VHS) with the passthrough function of the handycam and noticed that the resulting capture is more "bright" than the original, I applied a filter to change the contrast a little in Vegas Video. Is this normal? I thought the passthrough -> firewire capturing was the perfect way to transfer and that I didn't need to adjust anything (the camera doesn't have any options I think). Do I need to adjust all the my captured videos or only the passthrough ones?
    Thanks
    George.

you mean the image on your monitor is brighter than the image on your TV?

  3. Yes, when I preview the video in Vegas it is brighter. Then I rendered all the captured avi to DVD mpeg2, authored it and burned it on a DVD-RW. I played it back on my standalone and compared with the original VHS tape, and the tape has better contrast. I don't know if I am doing something wrong or if I have to always compensate with a filter in Vegas for the brightness/contrast change.
    Thanks.

Apparently the difference in contrast is being done by the analog to digtal converter in your camcorder. It must not be that good so you may have to keep using the filters.
