  1. I am interested buying one of these models...

Basically a TIVO System with a large hard drive and a DVD Recorder to burn movies from the hard drive...

    I found a great price under $600.00

Just wondering if any knows if the DVD once burned will play in other dvd players. or is this disk once burned only playback in the original player?

    If that makes sense...

Thanks for any comments and answers...

Yeah , that does look like a damn nice machine , if it records to dvd-r then i cant see any reason why it wud not play back on a standard dvd player , only thing that you have to bear in mind is that not all standard dvd players like playing the dvd-r format , cos my player wont play the last 10 mins of any -r disc. They cant be stupid enuf to make a disc that will only play back on the thing its self , cos then you might as well jus have a HD without the burner.

you have to tell me where you found it for $600 , cos i think i might get myself one.

I will pick the unit up next Wednesday.

  5. I would have got the Pioneer DVR-510hs recorder because you can edit out the commercials with that model.
You can't edit on the DVR- 810hs but the 510hs does not have Tivo.
Tivo is your main priorty though so i think you made the right choice.

I am very interested in the Pioneer 810hs or the 510hs.
Let me know how well your Pioneer works when you get it.
I keep reading that the picture quality is not that great on the pioneer recorders.
Could you post a review here when you get it? Thanks.

I have read that the regular TiVos do not use DVD/SVCD/VCD standard resolution, and the Pioneer units have changed the TiVo resolution to match the DVD burnable standards. The negative it seems is that only the best quality recording (which give you the least amount of recording time) is 740x480, the Good, Medium and Basic qualities are lower quality than the other tivos in order to match DVD standard recording rates, so people who record alot at the lower rates and are satisfied with a reegular TiVo are not so happy with the Pioneer settings.

I will try and find that link on the TiVo Community forum...
