  1. My pioneer 106 stoped working yesterday. Whenever I put a disc (dvd+/-r, dvd movie, cd) into it, it ejects it at once. What's going on? I had been using it no problem for the past 3 months until yesterday.

Anyone had this similiar experience? any suggestions?

    Thanks!!!!

    It may be dead.

    1) Unplug the power cord on your PC and open the case. Gently make sure all the cables are properly seated (they do wiggle loose).

    2) Insert a commercial CD, does it stay?

    3) Try changing the master/slave setting. Try the drive by itself on teh IDE cable.

    4) Have you installed any software lately? Have you done a deep virus scan (with updated definitions) lately? Installed/changed any hardware lately?

If a disk won't stay the drive, then it's 99.9% likely its dead. Call the vendor and get an RMA number.

  3. Thanks for the reply.

    1) Yes, I tried this one. I even moved the burner to another PC, same thing.

    2) No, I didn't try this. Will try it tonight.

    3) No, I didn't try to change the master/slave setting.

    4) Yes, installed some softare, like getting the latest dvd decrypter, daemon tools, etc. Yes, installed a TV capture card, added another hard driver, tried to install a new video card. I will try a deep virus scan tonight.

I upgraded the firmware to 1.06, I wonder whether I can still exchange it or not. Anyone knows how to downgrade firmware to 1.05? thanks !!

  4. Do vendors cover OEM drives under warranty?

I am planning to get one but am not sure whether to get a retail box or an OEM version, I don't care much about the software that comes with the retail box. The only other advantage would be warranty, if I run in to situation described above, but if OEM's are covered, I guess than its not much of a risk if the drive dies.

Sorry cowxl5, I can't help you with the problem as I don't own a burner yet.

    BINGO!

Daemon Tools. Make sure you aren't duplicating drive letters. I run my Daemon drives like M/N/O/P so there's no conflict with a drive letter. There shouldn't be, but if you have forced the issue you can get a conflict in the drive letter. Try removing it and see if that helps?

The Commercial CD/DVD is testing to see if you have lost 1/2 your laser assembly(previous 106 problem).

did it die after flashing the firmware? Improper flashing can render it useles and void your warranty.

  6. Yeah, the daemon tools works very weird on this pc - it only works the first time after I installed the software. After I restart my pc, it won't work anymore, it just won't mount image anymore! Everytime I change the number of drivers, my pc crashes.

Thanks, I am going to remove the sucker tonight and see if it will bring back my dvd burner.

No, it didn't die after flashing the firmware. I did the flash almost three months ago.

    Thanks again!

  7. Ok, here is what happened: Last night I removed software daemon tools, rebooted the pc, then put an original dvd into the dvd burner, it ejected the dvd at once, I pushed it in, it ejected it again, BUT this time it also eject a small white circle stuff. After that, the dvd burner works fine! WTF!

I hope I can upload the picture of the small stuff I talked about, but I don't know how...

Almost forgot, thanks for all the help!

  8. BTW, the white small circle stuff is part of the burner, I think. If you open your tray, you will see it and you know what I am talking about.

Apparently, mine got loose and fell apart but the burner still works!

  9. upgrade your a06 f/w to 1.07

make sure you're using the newest daemon tools

in an older version of daemon tools my pc used to restart when i would mount a disc image from another computer on the network. 3.33 fixed that

i too have an a06 & daemon tools (4 drives), never had any problems at all.
