  1. Hi

Sorry am new to all this.
I have a bunch of films stored on my hard drive. I cant burn them to DVD because the software i have " sonic " will only burn mpg into DVD format. Someone told me to downloads TMPGEenc and this will convert it to MPG for me.

I have done this but when i try and convert it using TMPG it says the file cannot be opened or is unsuppoted.

    Can anyone help ??
    thanks - Dr FRick

You need to find out what type of video files they are first. Get Gspot or AVIcodec from 'Tools' at the left side of this site. Then you study the guides to the left and go from there.

Yes, use the above programs to make sure you have the required codecs that were used to create each avi installed on your system. If you still have problems with TMPGEnc then click the link below.

  6. Hmmm still no look. I tried following the guide like it said, but im not too up on computers so im confused as to what to do next. Heres where im up to :

It says to first load your AVi file into Vdub 1.5X and Vdub MP3 , but i get the following error...

Couldnt locate cecompressor for format DIV3, Microsoft High SPeed MPEG4 V3 ( HackIVX,Low-Motion)
Virtual Dub requires a video for windows, VFW, comnpatible codec to decompress video. Direct Show Codecs, such as those used by windows media player are not suitable,

What's your confusion? What VD tells you is:you need to install a proper codec (in your case DivX).Try www.doom9.org or try this
http://www.divx-digest.com/software/index2.html#codecs to find your codec. There are packages, which contain all what you need.
