i'm having a problem with my HP 300i. the drive is not reading (data or audio) or writing CDRs (it does not recognize blank media) but it IS reading and writing DVD media, and finally, and most bizarrely it IS reading pressed CDs (but no burned CDs). any clue what i can do to get my CDR functionality back? i am using windows 98.

Try it in another computer first,if its still the same then you have a flakey burner that needs to be replaced.
