I'm new to dvd recording. I've been trying to record a video to dvd but my dvd rom refuses to read dvd-r/w. Instead it keeps saying "windows can't read this disk it may be corrupted". Can anyone please help me?

How did you create/obtain the DVD R/W disc? If it was from a DVD recorder, it may have not be finalized or it may be in a format Windows doesn't recognize. Does it play back on any other device? Does your DVD ROM read any other DVD R/W discs? If from a DVD recorder, which one, brand and model? And what's your DVD ROM brand and model? We would need more information to be of much help.

    And welcome to our forums.

your compaq dvdrom is probably a TOSHIBA 1612 which is actually a good reader. i suspect the disc is probably scratched & the TOSHIBA 1612 DVD-ROM's are not good readers when it comes to discs that are scratched. I know this because I had many of those TOSHIBA DVD-ROM's. you could ask a friend/relative who has a computer to see if that disc can be read in their computer.
