  1. Does anyone know what avi codec Ulead Videostudio uses? I've been capturing with Ulead which seems to work well, then encoding to DVD with TMPG.

However, I'm getting ready to start transferring VHS tapes as much as a decade old and have read plenty of threads of people struggling with quality degradation going from VHS to DVD. It seems that most people recommend using either a noise filter in a program like VirtualDub, or a lossless avi codec like Huffyuv. Does anyone know whether I can load Huffyuv into Ulead so that I don't have to buy VDub? Does that question even make sense?

I couldn't get Huffyuv to work with Ulead Videostudio 5.

I followed instructions on how to use Huffyuv with VS, but it seemed to ignore it. The files show no compression with vs without.

    I gave up.
