.art files are AOL compressed image files.

It isn't worth converting - the quality is awful

What you need to do, is go under key word Preferences and change your WWW settings to never compress
Make sure you emty out your cache, in case the compressed images are still in there.

Close AOL and restart - no more .art files

    Let me ask my wife....

Look for a program called Irfanview. It converts from one type of pic file to another... Do a search on google... it comes up with dozens of download sites.

I don't have a copy installed here at work, so I can't tell you if it does the .art files or not, but it does do dozens of other picture file type conversions to jpg, bmp, etc...

It doesn't appear that Irfanview supports AOL's .art format, after checking the list on their website for supported file formats.
You may want to take a look at this page, it describes exactly how to convert this .art format to .jpg or .bmp, etc. Hope this helps you!

You could try OPEN AS under Photoshop and see if another filter will open it...

  7. If he's on AOL, he doesn't need to convert - just change his settings and download the pic again...it'll be a jpg

I can't imagine why anyone would want to keep a compressed .art file - the quality is worse than a 28k modem rm video file.

If for some reason you can't replace the pic, open the pic in aol, use your Print Screen key, paste and crop the pic in an image editing program...the quality isn't gonna be any better anyway.
