  1. Hey there, this is my first time posting. I have had a dvd-burner for awhile now, and have been downloading movies for awhile now. I just recently decided that I would like to get my downloaded movies onto a DVD, so I can watch them on my standalone player.

I was up late last night, reading guides and articles. Trying to learn as much as I could before starting anything. I found my self making no progress, only learning new terms and having 3 or 4 new programs on my CPU, also having tons of new questions.

I know this is a learning process and you can't get it right the first time. But I have found my self where, I dont even know where to begin.

    questions :

    1. Are all my Downloaded movies .avis or .mpegs? Or are they VCDs or another format?

    2. When burning DVDs, is the one specfic format the video must be in so that it will play on a standalone player? Such as DVD, VCD, SVCD, or can an .avi or .mpeg go onto a DVD?

    3. How do I obtain more information about my video source, such as what it needs to be converted to, its framerate, bitrate, if it is NTCS or PAL etc....

    4. Is the process, of burning a downloaded video to DVD, 1. Converting, 2. Authoring, 3. Burning?

Yes you can tell I am noob, and yes I have so many more questions. But I will save them. I just want to know, where to start with a downloaded movie, and what I need to find out about it and where and how to find that information.

This is an example of a movie I have on my CPU and everything I know about it.

    - GoodFellas -
    Length: 2:25:31
    Size: 701 MB
    Image: 512x272
    Bitrate: 128kbps
    Audio Format: MPEG Layer-3
    Frame Rate: 23 FPS
    Data Rate: 82 kbps
    Video Sample Size: 24 bit
    Video Compression: DivX codec
    Video type: Video Clip

This is all the information I can find about my movie, if there is anything you can tell me about this movie from this information that would be great. Or a way to find out more information about it.

Basically I just dont know where to start with this video, do I need to convert it? Etc.....

Any help would be great, I know this is a learning process and I am not going to get it right, on the first try, but I cant even get to the first try stage.

    thank you!!

Like the previous poster said...your second senteces is a big no no this site.

Warez includes pirate/bootleg movies(movies that are not yet released on DVD or VHS).

    Lesson #1.

In order to stay clear of "The Man" this site doesn't stand for any discussion about illegal material. Unfortunately, you've made it quite clear that your movies aren't legally obtained.
