  1. When I open my ripping program, I get this error about the DVD being encrypted. Is there a program that can rip it, is there settings I can change, or am I screwed?

    Try DVDDecryptor........

I've tried SmartRipper, I think it 'may' be better in some cases for a really awkward movie, but DVDDecryptor should handle 99.5% of cases and its easier to use !!

Well, for me anyway. But, like most things asked about on here its all down to personal preference and choice

SmartRipper and DVDDecryptor seem to be the main 2 rippers people use

Alos, have you tried cleaning the DVD you're trying to rip first ?? If its covered in greasy marks and bits of stuff stuck to the surface, you will get problems when trying to rip it

Sometimes dropping the reading speed of the DVD drive (assuming it can be adjusted via the software) can make a difference as well, if a DVD is that badly scratched and you really need to get it ripped a slower reading speed could give the DVD drive a chance to get the data from a scratched part of the disk it might not have been able to otherwise

  6. While I was ripping some of my older movies with SmartRipper I had the same problem... If disk is slightly damaged or dirty, even if you can't see an obivous scratch SmartRipper won't have it... You may than try DVDDecrypter which has, once or twice, proved succesful where SmartRipper failed. But those two are equally good, I guess, the decision which one to use is mostly personal preference...

Did you try playing the DVD using your software dvd player such as PowerDVD? You should watch a little bit of the movie first and then try running SmartRipper.

  8. I wipped it off and used DVDDecrypter, and it worked, but I need an MPEG, not a VOB file. I tried DVD2SCVD and it used TMPEGenc, but the MPEG only plays on that computer. It doesn't work on my other computers. How would I get it, so it's just a regular MPEG that works in every computer?

  9. DVDx lost a lot of quality. I couldn't figure out what to do with Eazy VCD. Is it possible to get a quality avi file? Could I just get the codec to make the original mpeg file work on other computers?

  10. Nevermind, after I started playing with the compression, I made it sweet, but 2.2gigs (it's only 10 minutes), then I found the MPEG thing instead of AVI and it came out good at only 110mb. Thanks.
