did anybody realize this??? i'm converting an avi file into mpg for vcd format. but it seems the video quality is not that good compared to the avi format....seems like after converting, video quality is somewhat grainy/blur. anybody have such a problem????

VCD isn't the highest quality format, the resolution is pretty low. You can try something better like SVCD.

No wonder. This is the lowest quality MPEG format, for a reason (space saving).

There is an old saying on the forum, crap in = crap out. then there is my favorite, you can't polish a turd.
A lot of it depends on your input source and a lot of it depends on the output and some of it depends on the encoding and the encoder.
If you have a avi that is say, 352x200 at 1000kb. You cant except the picture to "improve" by making a VCD, which spec is 352x240 1150kps. -
You can save more space in MPEG2 (and the resulting AC3 audio). But yes, you are looking at the lowest quality format that will play in a DVD player.
