    Hi all
Could you please give me your valued help one more time?

My purpose is simply to convert an avi file to CVD in order to watch it in my standalone player.
But for some reason my product is a very jerky video with a quite fragmented audio.
I have checked my procedure an settings but I couldn't find what is wrong, a clue from you would be very useful.

    That is:

    Source file :
    DivX Pro 5.05 VBR
    512 x 272
    23,976 fps (ntsc film)
    audio MP3 VBR

    Intended file:
    Mpeg2 VBR
    352 x 480
    23,976 fps w 3:2 pulldown
    audio MP2 160 kbs VBR

    Procedure:

    1. Open VirtualDub, load the avi file
    2. Extract audio (PCM uncompressed) to wav
    3. In direct stream copy I save the avi (only video)
    4. Open TMPGEnc, load the avi (video) and wav
    5. Video main Settings :
    size: 352 x 480
    aspect ratio: 4:3
frame rate : 23.976 fps (internally 29.97 fps)
rate control mode : 2 pass VBR, avrg bitrate 2100
    video format: NTSC
encode mode: 3:2 pulldown when playback
motion search precision : high quality (slow)

Ok, in fact I don't burn the movie, I check the resulted MPG it in BS Player and in Windows Media Player, all my tests failed.
    Please , I'm waiting for a tip.

    Thanks

I think that might be your problem as regular Vdub doesn't handle VBR-MP3 audio very well. Did you get the VBR pop-up warning? Try a different way to create your wav file. I prefer Goldwave as it handles most audio types including AC3, just load your avi and save. You can try AVI2WAV or Virtualdub-MP3 as well.

BTW, you don't need to create an avi without audio. Just use your original avi for the video source.

You did scan for bad frames, right? If not then click my link below.

  3. I would do the following:
    1) I would use my CVD template off my site
    2) Open TMPGEnc, use my CVD VBR template, load the avi
    3) rate control mode : 300min 2100avg 2520max

This is what I've done in the past
    Ejoc's CVD Page:
    DVDDecrypter -> DVD2AVI -> Vobsub -> AVISynth -> TMPGEnc -> VCDEasy

    DVD:
    DVDShrink -> RecordNow DX

    Capture:
VirualDub -> AVISynth -> QuEnc -> ffmpeggui -> TMPGEnc DVD Author

  4. when testing use motion search precision fast. Do only 3 mins range then check the result. CVD may not be compatible. Defrag your hard disk. Reboot PC. Closedown unnecessary programs. dont use bs player to play mpgs. use a cdrw, someteimes choppy on pc comes out alright on player.
why not vcd? quicker & more compatible

That's very possible, your machine just might not like it.

    Hi again

I made some tests with the same source file applying SVCD NTSCfilm 2100 CBR and standart VCD NTSCfilm templates on TMPGE.
First I checked for bad frames in VDubMod, it was ok.
I extracted the audio with Goldwave.

    result :

VCD : audio and video synchronized, but video was a little jerky
SVCD: nothing changed. The same problem described before.

It seems to be a mpeg2 question, right?

  8. download dvd2svcd
Use the avi template. change the resolution from 480x480 to either 352x480(NTSC) or 352x240(NTSC)

Let us know if you have questions
