Hi,
I want to make a copy of my dvd and my dvd is 125m but my blank disc can only hold 120 minutes so i was wondering if you can help me make a copy of the original disc including chapters, menus, subtitles, language, but just shave off 5 minutes to make it fit. I dont want to buy any software so if its possible please tell me how to do it using freeware and get the same quality of stuff just as if it was the original. Thank you for your time and have a nice day please reply if you know how please.
P.S If overburning works fine than i will maybe consider it( if it does not degrade quality and plays just fine)
Would you consider 5 minutes over board a dvd=9 or still a dvd-5?

Do you have any idea how offensive your subject line is ?
It screams that you are a selfish *******, too lazy to spend
5 minutes looking at the guides. -
I did look at the guides for 2 hours last night and 1 hour last night....there is no guide that is specific to my needs.
-
idleSTART, do not base your judgement on what you've heard.
Simply try DVD Shrink, you won't regret it. -
hey ddlooping do you know if i could just like overburn or something like that?
-
idleSTART, I don't know if it is physically possible to overburn a DVD, but in any case I wouldn't recommend trying (even if you have the best media/writer available).

yea sorry bout that i figured that out but i forgot to retract the statement sorry....need to stop trying to doing eveyrhting fast...sorry and thanks for all your help

If you let DVD Shrink or CloneDVD or something (CloneDVD has a free trial) do AUTOMATIC compression, in order to lose 5 minutes off of a 125 minute movie it'll do like 3% compression - completely unnoticeable.

...if you delete a redundant audio-stream you might not even have to compress at all.

Still Halloweening, ddlooping?

I was trying out the program, i extracted things i didnt want such as the fbi logo and such but kept the menus in and when i burned and played it on my dvd player i couldn't do anything with the menus i couldnt select anything, instead i had to skip in order to get to the film....can u help me with this problem? -
idleSTART, "Re-authoring" with DVD Shrink doesn't allow to keep functionning menus (they are converted to a video stream and lose all their interactivity).
I didn't mention it as you said in your first post you wanted to keep everything; I assumed you would make a full-disc backup.
In the case of this particular DVD, you should be able to use "No Compression" on the movie-title, leaving it untouched, and reach your target size by deleting a few redundant audio streams and/or compressing the extras. -
If you compress the picture, doesnt that compress the audio as well? leaving the picture and audio in sync?.......I got a lot of scratches on my dvd....will backing it up somewhat fix some of the scratches?

Idlestart: You really need to read the guides.
First off, 125 minute movies doesn't mean shit. There is no such thing 120 minute DVD. I have several DVD's with over 4 hours on them, 720x480 resolution, and they are commercially made DVD5's (that's single layer). 120 minutes is a ballpark guess based on typical bitrates.
Since you are totally clueless, go read the DVDShrink guides Here:

You want the Doom9.org DVDShrink version 3 guide. I can't give you a link because doom9.org blocks direct links. If you can't find the guide on your own, then you need to unplug your PC and never ever turn it on again. To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -
WOW thanks Gazorgan

idleSTART
there are some movies less than 90 minutes long and will not fit uncompressed on a blank dvdr (that is if you want everything on the disc).
i backed up Scarface last night, compressed of course. the main movie itself is about 6.8G and almost 3 hours in length. -
If you compress the picture, doesnt that compress the audio as well?
When you compress a video stream you don't actually make it shorter in duration, only smaller in files sizes.
The number of frames and the rate at which they are displayed stay the same, so there shouldn't be any sync problem.
