Ive just got into this recently and have started to encounter some problems. The tools that Ive tried to use have been DVDDecrypter and DVD Shrink the beta version both have given me read errors and Im not sure where to start to look to resolve these problems. I'll give you guys as much help as I can. Ive tried to rip the Matrix (it was pretty heavely scratched up) then I tried to rip Driven (no scratches) with both DVDDecrypter and DVD Shrink beta 3.0 and both programs have failed to complete the rip more than half way through the process. These are the steps I have taken to make sure my computer is setup correctly.
Im using DMA mode on my burner and hard drive.
Ive updated my firmware on my Optorite DD0203 burner.
Ive done the put the DVD on pause trick.
Ive uncompressed my hard drive.
Made sure DVD's were clean.
Ensured that I have enough free space thats never been an issue.
Im not sure what Im missing all I want to do is to back up my dvd, any suggestion on what I may be doing wrong.
Thanks

If both give you read errors, then your media is bad.
Well, it could be a mechanical problem in your DVD drive (try a different DVD drive). A scratch can be very minute and still give you errors. DVDPlayers skip over errors and give you a macroblock flash. Rippers/transcoders barf out.
Try a known good disk to see if it will rip (brand new, or borrow a friends to test). To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan
