I was wondering if there are any recommended media dvd-+r for my nec1300a dvd-rw. I tried some memorex and tdk 4x dvd-r but for some reason they only play on my computer drives and not my ps2 or panasonic dvd player. Also, I currently use dvdshrink 3.0 to backup my dvd and roxio 6. I tried to use nero 6 but for some reason it keeps getting write failed or some type of write error and only writes a 1/4 of the dvd-r. so I tried nero 5.5.9.9 and the dvd project option is blanked out. Is there something I'm missing or should I try a certain version of nero. Roxio 6 seems to work fine but again the dvd-rs will only play on my computer drives and someone said to try nero. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

i have a 1300a and have no problems with burning quality media. i mostly use +dvdr 4x media from memorex, tdk and verbatim. the first 2 are Ricohs and verbatim is MCC (higher quality than Ricoh). i have used Maxell -dvdr 2x media also; good stuff. i use copytodvd for burning everything but dvdrw (it fails). for the rws i use nero 5.5.10.42; flawless.
look at the media code for your memorex for example. if they are ricoh i doubt it is the media that is failing. try using +dvdr media...Panasonic might not like your flavor of -dvdr.
also i have the original firmware on the drive; v1.07. if all else fails i would try different media, try different procedure for burning (ie convert to ISO with ImgTools before burning, etc.), try diffrent burning program, and lastly upgrade firmware (first with factory v1.08, then with Herrie's hacked versions)
good luck. -
I purchased a 1300a last week, my first DVD burner. Stumbling fairly blindly through my first through backups I've had complete success. I have mainly used DVDFab and DVDShrink to rip, and Nero 5.5.10.54 to burn. I've only used Nero Express to burn as well, not Nero ROM. I have also used CloneDVD to burn. I have not upgraded my firmware, and I am running Win2k. I have only used TDK 2x DVD-R's, which DVDInfo tells me are 4x Ritek G04's. I always burn at 2x. Regarding standalone playback I have tested every burn on my 3 dvd players, a 2 year old Mintek, 3 month old Panasonic carousel and 1 month old JVC dual VHS/DVD deck. Everything has played flawlessly.
I used DVDShrink to rip backup 2 of my kids movies, both of which required no compression fitting on a single DVD-R. I burned with Nero Express. I backed up disc 1 of my T3 DVD last night using DVDFab, splitting the single original into 2 DVD-R's. I used CloneDVD to burn. No failures, all play, and no video or audio problems to speak of.
Hope this helps. -
Have used successfully:
+R Infiniti 2.4x, Arita 4x
-R Ritek (yellow overprinted discs, labelled 'Grade A Media' - keep meaning to check disc info but haven't yet).Life is what happens just when you've got everything planned. -
I'm starting to think it is the media. I backup'd a dvd and it works on my pc drives but not my ps2 v7 or panasonic dvd player. I tried it on a friends and it does not work on his pc drive but his daewoo dvd player. it seems like the nec1300a doesn't like my memorex & Tdk 4x dvd-r. Maybe I'll just stick with roxio 6 and try some g04 riteks. or some +r... on nero 6, i get write failed and it only has data on like 1/4 of the dvd-r so... Thanks again for the feedback. I just hope its not defected...
