Question (seeing as I cant find the answer anywhere on here).
In plain english (cause I'm not to up on computer terminology) is there a way to burn a file onto a dvd (to be played in a dvd player) without a dvd writer hardware on your computer? Yes or No. :?:

Why does this question get asked time and time again ?
CD writers write CDs
DVD writers write DVDs
is that difficult ? -
yes you can, but you have to do it by hand with a pin. It can take a while.

I guess in all fairness you have to start learning somewhere - you wouldn't believe the amount of times folk at work have said things to me like "I heard there's a program on the 'net that allows a cd writer to write dvd's", so I guess it's only natural for folk that don't know to ask those that do what seems like a daft question.
And I guess it ain't as straight as it seems to us - after all, although cd writers write cd's, and dvd writers write dvd's, dvd writers also write cd's, so there's gonna be some logic to asking if the reverse is true.

I was actually in line at CompUSA the other day and a salesman was telling a customer about how they had software that would quote "turn your CD Writer into a DVD Writer." I couldn't resist the urge to turn around and rebuke the salesman before he duped some poor guy into dropping money on useless software. Turns out, the salesman didn't even know that a DVD-R is structured differently than a CD-R. Beware retail stores!

I just cann't believe that this question keeps being asked.
One again the person who is asking this question has a blank profile.

Beware retail stores!
(And why the heck can't I ever get the 'quote' function to work on these posts?) -

You and I know that means convert to VCD, is probably a pile of freeware and some instructions, but the average guy (child) in the streets doesn't know that. So its no surprise they think you might be able to burn DVD's in a CD burner.
Besides, these questions are always good for a giggle every now and then -
