  1. I have a few DVD sets (full seasons of TV shows, etc.) which I'd like to archive. I have used the tools here (DVDShrink, IC, etc.) to make backups while retaining the original menus and such, but the quality isn't so great.

    Since these are DVD-9s chock full of video (not really any big AC-3 soundtracks or extras to chop out), I am essentially removing 45-50% of the video information when shrinking it.

    Since these are TV shows, I know I'd rather have a lower resolution (like half D1) and get less blockiness than I'm getting now. I'd also like to retain the menus, and disc distribution (ie. moving a 6 DVD set to 12 DVD-Rs isn't a palatable option).

    Is there any software (or combination thereof) that would allow me to resize to a new resolution, transcode to a lower bitrate, and retain the original menu structure? I wouldn't mind multiple steps (within reason), but I've done the whole "rip vob -> extract menus -> demux -> reencode -> remux" route, and it's not something I'd like to do again.

    If the software doesn't exist, but someone knows that it is being worked on, I'd appreciate knowing that as well.

    No.

    The re-sizing precludes transcoding that DVDShrink/DVDOne uses.

    I'd suggest you dump the menus(it's whats killing your backups).

    You can easily put 3 episodes/DVD with no loss in quality, using DVDShrink, just dump the menus/extras. Simple Menus work fine.

  3. I've backed up alot of episode DVDs, I use a batchfile to run all my programs for me so it's just a double click, wait and burn. So there isnt 1 program that does it, my sig shows the steps I take.
    Ejoc's CVD Page:
    DVDDecrypter -> DVD2AVI -> Vobsub -> AVISynth -> TMPGEnc -> VCDEasy

    DVD:
    DVDShrink -> RecordNow DX

    Capture:
    VirualDub -> AVISynth -> QuEnc -> ffmpeggui -> TMPGEnc DVD Author

    Thanks for the suggestions, but not much to cut out in terms of extras. Plus the menus themselves don't take up much space pre-compression (<200MB total), so once the get compressed, it's likely the same proportion as the rest of the video.

    Went to your website. Looks like the scripting info is for creating CDs (maybe I'm reading it wrong). Does your method in the sig retain original menus, or will VCDeasy just create a simple menu system? I'll check the utilities out (had experience using them back when I used DVD2SVCD), but I wanted to see if you had some more info on your method.
