  1. DVDShrink and DVDx Copy Express are fantastic. But they're not perfect. There's certain DVD with copy protection that prevent both products from backing up the DVD. eg. these DVD were unable to be backup: HARRY POTTER Philosopher Stone, more I can't remember. Is there anything better that backs up everything???

  3. I backed up the american version the Sorcerers Stones with shrink. Does the
one from the u.k have a different protection?

  4. Try ripping with DVDDecrypter or Smartripper first, then shrink them. It is a common solution for a problem that has been discussed here many times.

  5. You're right, it's not the problem with the softwares. The disk is bad and has scratchs. Not even smartripper reads it. It just hang for an hour at the scratch. DVDx/DVD shrink just returns with CRC read failure at the scratch..

try the toothpaste method mentioned on this forum. basically you are polishing and smoothing out the scratches so as to render it readable. else try a diff burner/reader, esp Lite-On readers.
BTW most readers are better than burners for reading (thus ripping) dvds.

  8. sorry, not familiar with combo units...Lite-On 163, 165, 166 are the models that most people rave about; including me (166). have never failed to read scratched dvds while my burner NEC 1300a chokes on them.
so that you don't waste your time and pioneer laser use DVD Decrypter and set retries to 10...after around 10 seconds it stops with an error message. maybe SR also has that option.
also since you own the copy of HP you might consider renting/borrowing a copy of it and back that up.
(hope i did not break any forum rules here )
