  1. I recently bought an Onkyo Digital Reciever to hook upto my Phillips 711 DVD player however when I play a DVD it can never play Dolby Digital or DTS. It is all plugged in properly according to the manual. Does anyone know what the problem is???

  2. Step 1: Double check the cables, even though you said you did, do it again to make sure. (I assume you have either a digital coax/fiberoptic cable between your DVD player & receiver)

    - Does this occur on all your disks? yes=step 2, no=step 3

Step 2: Check to see if your player has a menu that allows you to adjust your audio settings. Look for like audio setup or something. you want to enable "Bitstream" or "SFDIF raw mode". This tells your player to output digital audio.

Step 3: Check the disk for a setup/settings menu. Look for audio options and select DTS or DD output.

If none of those worked, if you have one or a neighbor, trying hooking another DVD player(one you know works) to receiver to see if maybe the receiver is bad...and vice versa, your player to another receiver to see if your player is bad.

  3. Ok thanks i will check the cables again, it happens on all discs as well. When I go to select Dolby Digital or DTS it comes up with Dolby Pro Logic instead.

  4. I dont know much about Onkyo, but on my Sony, when it receives a signal, it has a auto detect type feature to detect whether or not the signal is analog or digital....but you can change it to oneor the other, I remember one day I left it on analog, couldnt figure out why I couldnt hear anything from my DVD player all of a sudden....so see if maybe it is analog only mode, and maybe switch your digital mode on??..just another random thought
