  1. I've had my a05 for 5 months now and recently during burning my a05 just hangs and the computer freezes up. It started doing this after I updated the firmware to v1.33. I've tried flashing back the firmware and still did the same thing after. Tried different burning software, alcohol, nero, and recordnow. Also tried different media, verbatim, maxell, and prioneer. Still would do the same thing but burning would go longer on the verbatim media before it would hang.
I am running an amd 2100, asus a7n8x, 512mb on windows xp.
    Any suggestions on this problem?
    Thanks

Clean the laser lens. Be sure the drive is DMA.

  3. I don't see how a dirty lens would cause a hang half way through a burn, personally - plus I've never had any need to clean the optics in any of my optical media drives to date. Some people might blow smoke into their drives or poor liquid into them, but for some people attempting to clean a lens will do more harm than good.

I would look at what you've installed recently and if they have any background tasks running. If you've got system restore on your operating system, try winding that back as far as it will go and see what difference that makes.

Plus make sure the IDE cable is pushed fully home and is sound - you can get some wierd errors if one of those ceases to be your friend.

  4. I have the drive set to DMA, and cleaned the lens. Still doin the same thing. I put it in another system and it worked fine.
The last things i installed were updated chipset and video drivers. But i have system restore disabled. Also i think my power supply is acting up, somehow my floppy shorted out the power wires a couple weeks ago so i just cut out that string of wires and taped the remaining ends. Could that be affecting it?
    Thanks for the help.
